Course Settings

Navigate to Course Settings from the Profile Menu

From the Course Settings, you can:

  • View course information and manage users.
  • Adjust assessment settings, which apply to the entire course.

Depending on your institution's policy, after clicking Course Settings you will be able to view or control parameters for your course. Within Course Settings you will find these tabs:

General Tab

Adjust information about the course with the General tab. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. You can review or update the following fields:

  • Title
  • Course key (review only)
  • Institution name
  • Start date (does not affect access)
  • End date (does not affect access)
  • Time zone
  • Enable My Scores Link

Start and end dates affect when students can enroll in the course through your learning management system (LMS), such as Blackboard. These dates do not control access to the course; your LMS does.

Enable My Scores Link will toggle student access to their assessment scores on and off.  The default setting, unless otherwise designated by your school/institution is "Yes" allow student to see My Scores.

Roster

This tab provides a list of everyone enrolled in the course as a student or instructor.

NOTE: Users who enter the course through an LMS (Blackboard, D2L, Moodle, and so on) are automatically assigned the role (or equivalent role) that they currently have in the LMS.

Assessment Settings

The Assessment Settings tab controls the number of attempts allowed for each assessment, which attempts are recorded, feedback availability, and late work policy. The settings on this page apply to your entire course.

Feedback Availability

Feedback refers to what students see after they complete an assessment. You can have different feedback availability based on whether the assessment has or does not have a scheduled deadline.

There may be formative value to setting feedback to appear before a second attempt if the assessment is scored on the first attempt only.

Note: Consider how these settings interact with:

  • number of attempts
  • the proportion of overall grade they affect
  • whether assessments have firm deadlines.

Late Work

This option sets a default policy for your course regarding acceptance of late work. Unlike the other settings on this page, this setting applies to both assessments and assignments.

If you choose not to allow students to submit late work, they cannot begin or submit work after the deadline.

If you allow students to submit late work, there are two additional options:

1. Allow students to start new work after the deadline. If you do not select this option, students can submit work started before the deadline, but they cannot start new work.

2. Accept late work after the deadline only with instructor approval. If this option is off, late work will be indicated as late but recorded automatically. If this option is on, you must manually approve each late submission in the Gradebook

IMP!!! These settings may affect how individual assessment settings interact. See how to to change these settings for individual assignments under Scheduling.
